Planned Road Closure – Staxton Hill 6th & 7th July 2026
NORTH YORKSHIRE COUNCIL - CHANGE TO ANNUAL STAXTON HILL MAINTENACE DATE
Published: 17 June 2026
North Yorkshire Council is bringing forward the routine maintenance works normally carried out in September on Staxton Hill. These works are now scheduled to take place on Monday 6th July and Tuesday 7th July.
This has been arranged to coincide with a separate road closure further south along the B1249, where targeted patching works will also be undertaken. Combining the works in this way will reduce disruption by avoiding the need for an additional closure later in the summer.
The road will be closed between 09:30 and 15:30 on both days and will be reopened outside of these hours. The routine works on Staxton Hill include refilling the salt bins and cleaning out the drainage system.
A signed diversion route will be in place via the A1039, A165 (to Bridlington), B1253 to the B1249, and vice versa.
Advance warning signs have been installed at either end of Staxton Hill to inform road users of the upcoming works.
